Dusting off the Roubaix

When I got to Bigfoot’s house, he pointed out that I still had dust on my bike from the winter storage. He caught me. The Roubaix hasn’t come off the rack in the cellar since last fall (or maybe even late summer). Time to dust it off.

We did an out and back to Milford center from his house. About 20 miles. We averaged 17.4 mph over the whole 19.56 miles reaching a max speed of 33.7 mph. Pretty good for the first ride. I didn’t want to kill myself or anything. My cold is raging on pretty hard now. Forget about breathing through my nose! And the hacking afterwards…smokers have nothing on this phlegm busting experience. Here is the course details from Garmin Connect.

I did a 2 Lap process. You’ll note that we did 17 mph out and 17.8 mph coming back. This is not really the true story. On my Garmin I have not set it to pause when we stop. So the timer keeps running. I stopped the first lap after we rested for a few minutes. Same goes for my mountain biking courses to date. We rest a lot during mountain biking so that is why you see low mph averages. Let me tell you, I work MUCH harder on my mountain bike than I do on my road bike. So from now on I will set the Garmin to pause when at rest so as not to skew the averages down. Will that make you happy!

The course was an plain jane out and back so I won’t bore you with pretty maps and stuff. It was a good ride overall. Some long slow hills…the longest one being about a 7% grade. BF was suffering a little. Sorry man…had to be told. It’s one thing to sit in back of Homey and practically put your feet up and catch a suntan and it is another entirely different experience if you have to pull the group at times.

Good to be back in the little saddle again for the summer. Now if I could only get rid of this cold.

You are right I need to start making BF pull some. He blocks even more wind then I do and it is good for him.
