TIMBA Part Deux

Last night we were back at the TIMBA Playground already this season. We are definitely getting the most out of our membership dues this year. We were just here on June 12th, sans the gringo.

It was a hot one out there. When you are sweating profusely BEFORE you even swing your leg over the bike, you know it is going to be atrocious in the woods. The gang was all here for this outing. We of course did some pre-hydrating while we were futzed around with the bikes. That put everyone in a good mood despite the heat.

TiTim led a brutal assault right from the word Go. He led almost the whole ride and the pace he set had us all gasping for any kind of air we could find in the stifling woods. It seems he has been riding to work a few days this week so he had a little more spring in his step if you know what I mean. (not that way, Geo.) As it turns out I was the only one who didn’t do any extra riding this week. And yet all they could do was bitch at me all night for ‘merely suggesting’ that we get going after what seemed like 20 minute rest breaks. Just for that I’m doing extra rides this weekend and starting up my lunch time rides again. Dammit.

The trail maintenance that we did last time was gone. The quads didn’t appreciate our tree trunk ramp over a larger fallen tree so they brought their chainsaws out and cleared a 6-foot path for everyone. Where were they last time before we spent 10 minutes building our ramps? Other than that, the trail was great as usual. We managed to extend it a little somehow and we went a little faster too (no doubt due to TiTim’s incessant pace).

The only breakdown of the night was my flat tire in the middle of a very long ascent up a fire road. It has to be at least 2 years since I have had a flat and I have no idea why I got one last night. Fortunately it was a quick pit stop as everyone pitched in. I think the motivating force behind that was all the hungry mosquitoes buzzing around.

Here is the course data as upload to Garmin Connect.

  • We went 12.05 miles in 02:22:30 for an average of 5.1 mph for the whole ride
  • I hit a max speed of 23.2 mph somewhere on a downhill (I was faster last time we rode)
  • Here is the PDF of the Google Earth map (the detail came through this time, nice map!)
  • Here is the PDF of the topographical map
  • Here is the KMZ file
  • Here is the Topo overlay file for the ride (combine the two in Google Earth)

Gringo brought the refreshments but we didn’t get to Vent this time. He brought some Coors Extra Gold which I guess is TiTim’s favorite cheap beer. It doesn’t get good reviews by the Beer Advocate but it was refreshing after the ride. Hot dogs and chips went well with it. But then again what doesn’t go well with hot dogs and chips!!

Good Ride…everyone survived the heat and the Rudy trail. No EV last night other than watching Geo almost endo over TiTim’s homemade bridge jump. Pull-up Geo, Pull-up!!

I don’t know how I feel about the Extra Gold but sounds like a good ride over all!
