Townsend Branches Out

TiCruz and the Gringo couldn’t make it for this week’s ride so GeoMo and I headed over to Townsend again last Thursday.  TSF is one of the few places that he and I can maneuver around without getting lost.  Most of the other places require the excellent ride leadership of the Gringo or TiCruz.

It was a great night for a ride weather-wise.  Hurricane, er rather Tropical Storm Irene tried to do some serious damage over the past weekend around here but fortunately failed to live up to the hype of some local and national newscasters.  Names will not be mentioned for fear that they may start to read this blog and I would have to become famous and throw large parties with multiple kegs of Narragansett beer for my friends.

All that resulted at TSF was a large amount of twigs and broken branches scattered about the trails.  It was a crunchy ride.  GeoMo had to watch out and not follow too close or risk getting a broken stick thrown at him.  I thought for sure one of us would get a broken spoke or mangled derailleur from all the flying wood.  Even stranger than that was the fact that TSF was relatively dry.  Unlike this past ride.   I had some pretty good flooding from the storm at my house and we fully expected the wet areas to be engulfed in water.  We got wetter last week in Carlisle.

Here is the data from Garmin Connect.  We managed to ride 7.21 miles in 01:34:30.  That averages out to a sluggish 4.6 mph.  I had one of the most entertaining times on that final long downhill.  The trail was either fairly clear or else I couldn’t see the rocks due to the impending dusk that seems to come early this year.  I think I just pointed my finely tuned bike downhill and hung on for dear life.  Anyway, it was excellent.

Beers were on me.  A cooler of Rocks.  Of the Rolling variety.
